A few years ago the Springfield Dept of Public Works and Springfield traffic engineers came up with a proposal to solve the major issue of traffick backup on the West JRF exit ramp at Campbell that was being caused by people having to cross 2 lanes of traffic to get to the left turn lane to go west on Republic Rd.. The plan was very simply this Eliminate the existing exit ramp and build an offramp a few hundred feet East of the existing off ramp. There is open land needed to do so and all of the traffic studies proved that it would work well and was the least expensive solution to the problem. It is my understanding that the state did not go with this plan even though it was both a great solution and less costly because the State had there minds set that the only way to solve the problem was to eliminate an intersection within that corrodor. Many of us can remember when they had a similar problem at 65 bypass and Sunshine corridor. They will try to get you to believe that the solution worked there when in fact all it did was cause backup problems during peak rush hours further back from that intersection. No matter what they do there will always be some backup at peak traffic periods. I would like to have someone with the City and State tell me and the rest of the tax paying citzens of Missouri why further consideration was not given to the plan of relocateing that exit. Why was it scrapped even though the City had done the preliminary design and trafic study work to show that it had real merrit.and was a better financial decision. Dont let the overblown ego of the state prevail over the best solution.Remember sometimes the best solution is the the simplest.
